Indian designers have managed to build what is probably the best price laptop in the world, costing only $10. This laptop was designed for school kids by IIT-Madras, Vellore Institue of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science, and they claim that it will be able to do a little more than just render web pages and play videos. The laptop comes with 2 GB memory, fixed Ethernet, WiFi, expandable memory and runs of just 2 watts of power, which is 97% less power consumption than a normal PC.
The price may seem ideal for the Indian market, but it is being targeted at rural school children and the truth is that in many areas perhaps only 10% of the rural population will be able to afford it. However, the Indian government is expected to grant these machines to rural schools so that children who cannot afford to buy them can still have internet access.
